Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
Hailcat LLC (“Hailcat,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) makes the Hailcat Financial Planner mobile app (the “App”) and operates the website at hailcat.app (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App and Site collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the App or the Site, you agree to this Policy.
The short version.
• Your financial data stays private. The plans, balances, income, expenses, assumptions, and results you enter live on your device — and, if you turn on iCloud backup, in your own private iCloud account. We never receive that data, we never use it for advertising, and no advertiser or other third party gets access to it.
• To improve the App, we collect anonymous usage statistics — counts of which features get used. These events contain nothing that identifies you or your device, and never the financial details you enter. A switch in the App’s settings turns this off.
• We also collect your email address if you choose to join our launch-notification list on the Site.
1. Information we collect
a) Your financial data — stays on your device
The financial information you enter — including your plans and their names, ages, account balances and cost basis, income and expense streams, tax and longevity assumptions, and the projection results — is stored on your device. If you enable iCloud backup, that data is also stored in your personal iCloud account so it can sync across your devices and survive a reinstall; iCloud is provided by Apple and governed by Apple’s terms and privacy policy, and Hailcat does not have access to it.
We do not operate a server that receives the financial data you enter, and we never use it for advertising or share it with advertisers or other third parties. Backups or results cards you export are created on your device and go only where you send them (for example, Files, Messages, or Mail).
b) Anonymous usage statistics — never your financial data, never your identity
To understand which features get used and improve the App, the App sends us anonymous usage events. Each event is a simple count — for example “a calculation was run” or “the journal was opened” — together with coarse, non-identifying context such as:
- app version, iOS major version, device type (iPhone or iPad), and whether the install is an App Store or TestFlight build;
- broad ranges rather than exact values — for example days-since-install as a range like “8–14 days,” never an exact date;
- broad facts about the plan being modeled (the primary person’s age decade, sex, marital status, and US state) — these describe the plan, which may be for a spouse, a parent, or a hypothetical, and are collected so we know which tax rules and life situations to prioritize;
- if you installed the App from an Apple Search Ads ad, the anonymous campaign and keyword numbers Apple provides, so we can tell which ads work.
What these events never contain: your name; any financial value, balance, income, expense, assumption, or result; and no user ID, device ID, advertising identifier, fingerprint, or anything else that could link two events to the same person or device. We do not store IP addresses with events, and event times are recorded only to the hour. Every allowed event and value is fixed in advance in a closed list built into the App — there is no free-form field that could carry anything else.
You can turn this off at any time in the App: Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data. The App does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites and contains no advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
c) The Site, and when you contact us
If you submit your email address through the notification form on the Hailcat Financial Planner page, we collect that email address so we can send you the updates you asked for (for example, when the Android version launches). That form is processed by Formspree, our form-and-email service provider.
If you contact us — through the Site’s contact form or the “Contact the Developer” email link in the App — we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use them to respond to you.
2. How we use information
- to operate, maintain, and improve the App and Site;
- to understand, in aggregate, which features get used and how well our advertising works;
- to send the launch and update notifications you requested;
- to respond to your questions and requests.
We do not use the financial data you enter for advertising, and we do not use it for any purpose beyond providing the App’s features on your device (and your iCloud backup, if you enable it).
3. How we share information
We share information only:
- with service providers that host our systems on our instructions — the anonymous usage events described above are stored with our database hosting provider;
- with Apple, which provides iCloud backup, the App Store, and Apple Search Ads attribution (governed by Apple’s privacy policy);
- if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Hailcat LLC, our users, or others;
- in connection with a business transfer (such as a merger or acquisition), subject to this Policy.
We never sell or share the financial data you enter, and we do not sell or share the anonymous usage events — they identify no one and are used only by us.
4. Data retention
Financial data you enter stays on your device (and in your iCloud, if you enable backup) until you delete it in the App, turn off iCloud backup, or remove the App. We keep launch-list emails until you ask to be removed. Raw anonymous usage events are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted; only aggregate counts (for example, daily totals per feature) are kept longer.
5. Children’s privacy
Hailcat Financial Planner is intended for adults making personal financial plans. The App and Site are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us through our contact form and we will delete it.
6. Your choices and rights
- Anonymous usage statistics: turn them off any time in the App under Settings → Privacy → Share anonymous usage data.
- Email list: every notification email includes an unsubscribe option, or email us to be removed.
- On-device & iCloud data: delete individual plans within the App, turn off iCloud backup, or remove the App.
- Access, deletion & opt-out: depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising. To exercise these rights, contact us through our contact form. We will respond as required by applicable law and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
7. Security
Because the financial data you enter stays on your device (and, if enabled, in your iCloud account), its security is tied to your device’s and Apple iCloud’s protections. For the information we do hold (launch-list emails and usage/advertising data), we use reasonable measures to protect it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International users
We operate in the United States. If you use the App or Site from outside the U.S., you understand that information we collect (such as a launch-list email or usage data) is processed in the U.S.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time — for example, if the App adds features that change what is collected. We will keep this Policy current and update the “Last updated” date above, with additional notice where appropriate.
