Hailcat LLC · New Jersey
Maximillion, the HailCat pixel box-cat mascot

Hi, we're Hailcat

We make financial software that takes the math seriously and itself a little less so. The engine underneath is the kind we've spent our careers building. The cat around the office is there because a plan you enjoy making is a plan you'll actually keep.

Who we are

Hailcat LLC is an independent, self-funded fintech company based in New Jersey. We're small on purpose: one engine, full attention, and nobody to answer to but the people using the app.

Who's behind it

Our background is quantitative finance and actuarial science, which is a fancy way of saying we've spent our careers modeling markets, lifespans, and the tax code. At some point we noticed the retirement tools our friends were using wouldn't survive five minutes of professional scrutiny, and the ones that would were priced like enterprise software. So we built the planner we'd want our own families to use. It wore a pixel cat for its first year; it wears a halo now.

And yes, Maximillion the box-cat is on the org chart. Title: Chief Morale Officer. Responsibilities: naps, morale, and quality assurance by walking across the keyboard.

Under the fur

The friendly look is a choice we made so the app feels like something you'll open twice. The engineering underneath is the choice we care most about.

  • Sourced, current tax tables. The planner models 2026 federal tax law and the income tax rules of every US state: brackets, deductions, capital gains, Social Security taxation, and retirement income exclusions, with each figure traced to its published source.
  • Actuarial modeling. Lifespans are simulated from the Social Security Administration's official life tables, sex-specific with mortality improvement. It's the same data actuaries use, not a guessed "plan to 90."
  • A true multi-asset Monte Carlo engine. Thousands of market paths drawn from documented capital market assumptions with full correlation structure, and you can inspect and change those assumptions in the app.

How we test, the short version

We keep the full recipe to ourselves, but the principles are simple:

  • Golden references. The engine's tax, annuity, and projection math is checked to the cent against independently computed reference values on every build.
  • Real plans, not toy examples. Every change is validated against beds of full, realistic scenarios, so updates are proven on the kind of plans people actually build, not just convenient test cases.
  • Deterministic simulations. The same inputs always produce exactly the same projection, on any device. That makes every change auditable and every release comparable to the last one.
  • Every change ships with a test. If no existing check would catch a change being wrong, a new one is written before the change lands. Hundreds of automated checks gate every release, and nothing ships while one is red.
