Hailcat LLC (“Hailcat,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) makes the Seraph: Life Expectancy mobile app (the “App”) and operates the website at hailcat.app (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to this Policy.

The short version.

• Your estimate is calculated on your device, from mortality tables built into the App itself. The App does not save your answers, and it has no accounts and no sign-in.

• We collect anonymous usage statistics, including the answers you give, so we can see how the App is used and whether it suits the people using it. They carry no name, no account and no device identifier, and nothing in them can be linked back to you. This is on by default, and a switch in the App’s settings turns it off.

• We do not collect your date of birth.

• There is no advertising and no tracking in the App.

1. Information the App collects

a) Your answers

To produce an estimate, the App asks you about your age, sex, smoking history, height and weight, diabetes diagnosis, blood-pressure category, self-rated health, education, household income range, marital status, physical activity and alcohol use. Some of that is health information, and we treat it accordingly.

The estimate is calculated on your device. The App does not save your answers: it writes no file, no database entry and no preference containing them, does not use iCloud, and does not read from or write to your Health app.

b) Anonymous usage statistics

The App sends us anonymous usage statistics so we can see how many people use it, how far they get, and what kinds of profiles it is being used for. These include the answers you gave, in an anonymous form.

Your date of birth is not collected. It is reduced to a year of birth on your device before anything is sent, and our system has no field that could hold a date.

These statistics contain no identifiers of any kind: no name, no email address, no IP address, no device or advertising identifier, no account, and nothing that connects one visit to another. We count what happens in the App; we do not follow anyone. Every value we accept is fixed in advance in a closed list, so there is no free-form field that could carry anything else.

They are stored by Supabase, our database hosting provider, which processes them on our instructions, and are deleted after 24 months.

Collection is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in the App: Settings → Collect anonymous data. Settings is the gear icon at the top right of the home screen. With that switch off, the App stops sending usage statistics, and it still calculates your estimate in full on your device. That one switch controls everything described in this section: anonymous usage events that carry no personally identifying information and that record a year of birth rather than a date of birth.

c) The App Store link

The App contains a link to our other app, Seraph: Retirement Planner. If you tap it, iOS opens the App Store. That is a normal App Store visit governed by Apple’s privacy policy; we receive no information about it beyond the anonymous event noting that a tap happened, and none of your answers are attached to it.

d) App Store statistics

Apple provides us with aggregate, anonymous App Store statistics, such as how many people downloaded the App and the aggregate ratings it received. These come from Apple, describe no individual, and are not connected to anything you enter in the App.

2. How we use information

Your answers are used on your device to compute and display the estimate you requested. The anonymous statistics described above are used only to understand how the App is used and to improve it and the model behind it. They are not used for advertising, and they are not combined with anything else.

If you contact us through the Site’s contact form, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message, and we use them only to respond to you.

3. How we share information

We share information only with Supabase, our database hosting provider, which stores the anonymous usage events on our instructions, and with Apple, which provides the App Store. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share personal information for targeted advertising. The usage events identify no one, and are used only by us.

4. Data retention

Your answers exist only in the App’s memory while it is running, and are discarded when it closes. The anonymous usage events are kept for up to 24 months and then deleted. Messages you send us through the contact form are kept only as long as needed to respond to you.

5. Children’s privacy

Seraph: Life Expectancy is intended for adults, and the App does not accept a date of birth that would make you under 18. The App and Site are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. 6. Your choices and rights

Anonymous usage statistics: they are on by default; turn them off at any time in the App under Settings → Collect anonymous data, where Settings is the gear icon at the top right of the home screen.
Your answers: delete them at any time by tapping “Start over” in the App, or simply by closing it. Deleting the App removes everything.
Access, deletion & opt-out: depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information. For the usage events, we hold no identifier that would let us find yours, so there is nothing we can retrieve or delete for a named person; if you would like that confirmed in writing, contact us through our contact form. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

7. Security

The App does not save your answers, so there is no store of them on your device for anyone to obtain. The anonymous statistics we hold contain no identifiers, so even in the worst case they could not reveal who anyone is. We protect them with reasonable measures regardless. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International users

We operate in the United States. The App’s estimates are built on United States mortality data and are intended for US users. If you use the App from outside the U.S., the anonymous usage events are processed in the U.S.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time, for example if the App adds features that change what is collected. We will keep this Policy current and update the “Last updated” date above, with additional notice where appropriate.
